.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 141 PM CDT Fri Jul 25 2025

Tonight and Saturday: Our CWA will remain on the western periphery
of a large 595dam high centered just off the Georgia/ South Carolina
coast and on the northeast periphery of a departing tropical wave
centered over the northwest Gulf. Surface ridging will continue to
nose across our CWA from the east. The tropical wave to the
southwest is expected to move farther west through the period while
the large mid level ridge to our east spreads a little farther west
over our CWA as well. With lower rain chances leading to warmer
afternoon temperatures Saturday, combined with our moist airmass
with a PWAT around two inches, heat index values will climb into the
105-110 range over the northwest half of our CWA again. A Heat
Advisory has been issued for that area on Saturday as well.
Convection Saturday is expected to get started in the southeast by
noon Saturday and help limit heating over the southeast half of our
CWA. /22/

Through Late Next Week...

An upper-level ridge will remain entrenched over much of the eastern
2/3rds of the CONUS throughout the rest of the period. The strength
of the core of this ridge is in the 90th to 99th percentile range,
indicative of the dangerous heat stress threat in poses for large
swaths of the country over the next week. Easterly waves south of
the ridge will bring intermittent disruptions to the heat and
humidity driven by the ridge with accompanying bump in rain chances.

There is a good chance that we will need widespread Extreme Heat
warnings through next week, with Tuesday/Wednesday set to be our
hottest days (heat indexes between 110-115F).

It should be noted that with the wealth of latent heat/potential
energy, there remains a small chance near daily for a microscale
feature (thunderstorm/shower) locally overachieving by overcoming
the strong mid-upper level inversion can not be ruled out. Should
that happen, a brief severe thunderstorm producing damaging winds
can not be ruled out. As always it remains prudent to monitor all of
our messaging for the latest updates this summer.

As an aside we did look further ahead through the next month or so
to see if there is any real relief from the heat, and there does not
look to be any shift in pattern or a break on the horizon./OAJ/
